Personally, I would say ultrasound tech. The people you see will usually be happier than the ones at the dentist and you won't have to put your hands in people's mouth. (Ewww.) Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck!!!

It depends on which type of environment you would want to work with more. These are both very lucrative fields, and would be very good paying jobs.

A sonographer works more in a hospital setting on one patient at a time, and will see a variety of cases such as cellulitis, thyroid problems, heart problems etc., and might need to be able to diagnose them accurately.

A dental hygeniest primarily works with one patient in a dentist's office, and work in the mouth. This can be in a very confined space, and you have to be able to work in a very small spot.

Hope that this helps, and I am sure that you will be able to decide what you would be able to choose.

Good luck:)

The site college board.com cited the Bureau of Labor Statistics as having reported that the average salary of Dental Hygienist as being an average of $64,910 in 2007. The BLS also projects that employment opportunities will grow much faster than average for many careers through 2016.

Whereas the same site reports that The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an average salary of $60,590 for diagnostic medical sonographers in 2007 with faster than average growth is projected.

I suggest that you visit both collegeboard.com & http://www.bls.gov/OCO/ to view more information about each profession. Also consider shadowing someone in each profession for a day or conducting multiple information interviews with people in the professions, respectively.

Best wishes in whatever you decide!
